Rib with eight persons on board, taking on water at Dawlish Air Show The Teignmouth lifeboat 'The Two Annes' had launched earlier to take part in the Dawlish Carnival and Air Show. Before any Search and Rescue demonstrations could take place, HM Coastguard tasked the Teignmouth lifeboat volunteer crew to assist a broken down 26ft racing rib that was taking on water, and with eight persons on board. Six people were transferred to the MV Seaquest, and one was taken aboard the lifeboat, with the rib owner staying on board the rib. A fast tow was organised by the lifeboat crew to help drain the water from the rib. Lifeboat mechanic Charlie Woolnough went aboard the rib and managed to get one engine started. The person on the Teignmouth lifeboat was then transferred to the Exmouth lifeboat (which also had been launched to take part in the Dawlish Carnival demonstration). The rib under it's own power was then escorted to Exmouth by the Exmouth lifeboat, which was then unable to take part in the SAR demonstration. The Teignmouth lifeboat and a Search & Rescue helicopter then entertained the crowds on Dawlish seafront. |

Fishing Boat with engine failure drifting in the river mouth HM Coastguard Brixham tasked the Teignmouth lifeboat 'The Two Annes' to assist a 14ft fishing boat with two persons on board adrift in the mouth of the River Teign. The fishing boat's engine had earlier failed near Fish Quay, but with the fast running river on the ebb tide, they were soon carried towards the sea. Although it was a well equipped fishing boat with an auxiliary engine, this engine was not powerful enough for the ebb tide, and to add to the problems some water had been taken on board, making the boat unstable. The lifeboat took the boat in tow and returned it to Polly Steps. |

The lifeboat station mechanic who was helming the lifeboat assessed the damage to the motor boat and found a problem with their bilge pump and the water re-circulatory system. The motor boat was beyond simple repair, so she was towed by the lifeboat into Torquay harbour. |

It was requested by HM Coastguard Brixham that the two engineless boats be towed to Torquay, and a vessel out of Torquay the 'Stand Easy' came to help and took one of the boats in tow, the lifeboat taking the other. River search for missing woman Both Teignmouth lifeboats, HM Coastguard and other emergency services all combined in a search for a missing woman. The last sighting of the missing person was near Bishopsteignton, so a full search operation was carried out on the River Teign and along the estuary banks. The small lifeboat (XP32) proved its usefulness in the flood tide, by being able to search amongst the reed beds, both below the road bridge and above towards Newton Abbot. The Atlantic 85 because of its draught could only search in the main channel, whilst the XP with its draught of only a few inches, managed the reed beds and the upper banks of the river quite easily. A long search of the river and the bank sides found nothing, but fortunately the missing person was located alive and well a little way inland a few minutes after the river search was stood down |

Injured person brought ashore HM Coastguard Brixham, requested the Teignmouth relief lifeboat 'Peterborough Beer Festival III' to go to the aid of a broken down 25ft cabin cruiser off Bundle Head. One of the persons aboard had suffered major burns to his face after removing a cap on the water-cooling system. The casualty was brought ashore to waiting paramedics who then transferred him to hospital. Because of the spring tide and it being close to low water, the broken down vessel had to wait until the tide flooded for recovery. During this waiting time, the other person on board managed to get the engine running again under the watchful eye of the dredger 'Teign C'. The casualty vessel was later able to make her own way back into Teignmouth. |
