Vessel aground at Pole Sands
A member of the public informed the DLA of a boat in difficulties on Pole Sands with a person in the water attempting to refloat the vessel in 1m breaking surf.

The crew from the previous service (see below) were still at the station and launched the RNLI ILB 'Frank & Dorothy' immediately.

On arrival at the scene, the casualty vessel - Kazzy Ann, a 5m cabin cruiser with 3 persons on board - had been refloated and the person in the water recovered. The casualty was subsequently escorted to Polly Steps.

During this service another vessel ventured too close to the sandbar and was almost knocked-over, the lifeboat stood-by until this potential casualty regained control.

Subsequent to this service the boat owner wrote to the station to thank the crew, informing them that at the request of his children he had immediately joined the RNLI as an Offshore Member, and also that would be seeking advice from the local 'SeaCheck' safety advisor!

2 Young men rescue skipper from sinking crabber
The Teignmouth RNLI lifeboat 'Frank & Dorothy' was launched to the assistance of an inshore crabber 'Faith' SC84, sinking near the twin green light marker post on the Point. The fishing vessel was observed throwing out crab pots in an effort to stay afloat, but filled with water from the stern and went down on her side just out of the main shipping channel.

The IRB arrived on scene 1 minute after launching, but the one person on board had been recovered from the wheelhouse door which was already under water, by 2 young men who dived into the water without fear for their own safety.

The lifeboat stood by with 2 crew members entering the water to help attach lines and pump out the casualty vessel which was lying on its side. Recovery and salvage was carried out by the Coastguard, the Harbour Masters' launch, and the vessel 'Spot-On', with the lifeboat standing-by whilst persons were in the water carrying out the salvage operation. The lifeboat was stood-down at 11:35.

The 2 young men who recovered the casualty (Orne Vince) were Michael Kingsley (son of lifeboat helm Simon Kingsley, and Dan Gregory who is on the waiting list to join the Teignmouth Lifeboat crew.
